Teflon: Quit Stickin’ Around

Pots and pans are on of the most common items found in a kitchen. We use them for boiling, frying, sauteing,  cooking, browning, and the occasional drum set on the kitchen floor for your little one.

If you think all pots and pans are created equally, think again.

If you have any sort of nonstick pots or pans in your kitchen, they might be doing more harm to you than you think.

Teflon is the chemical that is applied to pots and pans so that they ca be considered “nonstick”. Americans LOVE nonstick pans for the ease they provide while cooking. Come on, who wants to deal with all the tasty spices you just put on your chicken sticking to the bottom of the pan? Nonstick pans are a “lifesaver”… or are they?

Teflon pans turn toxic faster than you think. Teflon begins decomposing when heated above approximately 440º C, and this chemical breakdown continues until about 590º C. At lower temperatures the principal toxic component may be particulate containing oxygen difluoride, ionized carbonyl, and tetrafluoromethane. At higher temperatures, perfluoroisobutylene (a highly toxic gas) may be formed.

Teflon companies have been trying to keep this a secret for about 50 years now. The affects of Teflon have been tested on animals and this is what they found:

In animal studies, PFOA caused:
* serious changes in organs such as the brain, liver, kidneys, prostate and thymus.
* death of several rat pups from PFOA exposure
* changes in the pituitary in female rats, at all doses, which controls growth, reproduction, and many metabolic functions.
* tumors in at least 4 different organs in animals, and implications of an increase in prostate cancer in PFOA plant workers.

A safe alternative for using Teflon pans is switching over to stainless steel pans which are near in price and do not contain Teflon. Switching your pans will not only help prevent you from possible health issues but your food will taste exactly the same.

ESPECIALLY DO NOT USE TEFLON PANS IF THEY LOOK LIKE THIS:

You are literally ingesting Teflon into your body. THROW THE PAN AWAY!

Toxic Sunscreen

The sun is your best friend when it comes to getting enough Vitamin D  for your body.

Vitamin D helps to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. It also aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recently, research also suggests vitamin D may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), cancer, and several autoimmune diseases. It is important to get enough sun exposure so that we attain enough vitamin D for our health. The recommended amount of sunlight needed is about 10-20 minutes daily to prevent vitamin D deficiency.

Positive aspects of getting enough vitamin D

* cardiovascular health
* to maintain optimal cholesterol levels
* to enhance muscular strength
* to maintain optimal blood pressure levels
* to maintain a healthy immune system
* to support healthy kidney function
* to support healthy teeth
* keeps your bones strong

No body likes to get sunburn. The pain, itch, peeling, and sunspots are not  desirable benefits from the sun if we don’t protect ourselves from its rays. The 10-20 minutes a day is crucial for your body and its vitamin D intake. Do not cover yourself with sunscreen before you get that 10-20 minutes.

Coppertone, Banana Boat, and Neutrogena are all brands of sunscreen that we know and trust, but what are we really absorbing into on our skin and ending up in our bloodstream when we use these “trusted” products?

Harmful chemicals in sunscreens:
* para amino benzoic acid
* octyl salicyclate
* avobenzone
* oxybenzoine
* cinoxate
* padimate o
* dioxybenzone
* phenylbenzimidazole
* homosalate
* sulisobenzone
* menthyl anthranilate
* tromamine salicyclate
* octocrylene
Oxybenzone and Dioxybenzone are two of the most powerful free radical generators known to man.

So the question is: is it really the sun that is causing skin cancer or is it the toxic sunscreen we lather up with that contains multiple,harmful chemicals that is causing the cancer?

Look for all natural sunscreens that contain green tea, lecithin, coconut oil, glycerine, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, vitamin e, shea butter and eucalyptus oil to protect you from the sun.

I believe we think we are doing a good thing by lathering up with sunscreen but not only are we preventing ourselves from absorbing vital vitamin D but we are covering ourselves and our children with toxic chemicals which are being absorbed into our bloodstream.

Are Your Cosmetics Harming You?

L’Oreal, Avon, Dove, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Clinique, Cover Girl, Estee Lauder, and Revlon are all product names that we know and trust. We might use one or many of these products that these brands offer daily. What are they really offering?

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It can absorb substances and liquids and an incredible rate. This means that it not only absorbs the good things but also the bad. Many of these products contain toxins that we might not be aware about.  These products might contain harmful toxins such as:

Pthalates – Known toxin. Found in many nail polish, including expensive brands
Alcohol – Dries the skin
Salicylic acid – Revered for many uses, can cause allergies
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – This is an industrial detergent and can cause allergies

These toxins can be extremely harmful to your body and can cause cancer, allergens, and skin rashes. Test out the products you use daily and see how they measure up and what they have in them that you didn’t know about.

Look for natural make up products that don’t contain these harmful toxins. You can usually find them at most health food stores.

Here’s a great all-natural and inexpensive facial treatment to nourish and tighten your skin. And you don’t need any fancy creams – all you need is an egg. Simply divide the yolk and the white of an egg in separate bowls. Whip both up a bit with a fork. Then apply the egg yolk all over your clean face using a small brush. She uses a fan brush she purchases at the craft store. She also recommends taking the egg yoke all the way up to your lower lashes – no need to avoid the eye area like so many of the other facial treatments. Leave it on your face for 10 minutes, then wash off. Then apply the egg white all over your face to tighten the skin – leave on as long as you’d like, then wash off.

You Didn’t Think This Would Help The Pain…

Cuts, bruises, burns, scrapes, and bites are all a part of a normal life. Many people might resort to drugs to help their wounds heal but what they don’t know is that they have items right in their kitchen cabinets that have healing properties in them. Using drugs to heal wounds only puts more chemicals into your body that could make the wound take longer to heal. Try these natural remedies before you reach for the drugs.

Sugar:

Sugar has natural healing properties that kills bacteria, heals the wound, prevents infections from happening, stops the pain while speeding up the healing process.

Make a thick paste with sugar and water and apply directly to the wound. Put a bandage on top.

Olive Oil

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory that contains Cox enzymes as one of the main pain-fighting ingredients. 3 tablespoons of olive oil equal 10% of the cox-blocking ability of ibuprofen. Only the purest extra virgin olive oil will contain the highest amount of the cox enzymes.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Mix baking soda with vinegar into a past to stop the itching of bites, bee stings, and general itching. Leave the paste on skin until it drys and reapply.

Whole Milk

Have a sunburn? Apply whole milk with washcloth or gauze. Vitamin D and A speeds the healing and cools the skin. You can also add 2 cups to bathwater.

Honey

Apply honey to cuts and scrapes as a natural antibacterial, healing aid, lubricant, and protects the skin.

Add Years to Your Life

What are telomeres? They are the end caps of your DNA. Each time your cells divide, your telomeres get shorter. When your telomeres run down, cell division stops, and your life ends. Omega3s might be the answer to the prolonging of your telomeres.  Some might claim that anti-aging is impossible but other argue that this is simply not true. If you can slow down the process of your telomeres being shortened which takes of years of your life, you can then prolong your life because of these telomeres not shortening. Omega3s help prolong the ends of your telomeres.

Where can people find these life-prolonging nutrients?

Try these 3 simple steps:

Step 1: Eat fresh fish three or four times a week.

  • Albacore tuna
  • Mackerel
  • Salmon
  • Sardines
  • Lake trout
  • Swordfish
  • Herring

Step 2: Eat more raw nuts and seeds.

  • Flaxseeds and flaxseed oil
  • Soybeans and soybean oil
  • Walnuts
  • Brazil nuts
  • Almonds
  • Hemp seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds

Step 3: Take 3 to 5 grams of Omega-3 fish oil a day.

  • Strengthen your heart and blood vessels
  • Maintain blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range
  • Help support joint and muscle health
  • Keep your triglycerides (blood fat) in the safe range
  • Sustain healthy HDL (good cholesterol) levels
  • Boost your memory and brainpower
  • Protect your blood vessels and nerves
